Spanish women’s skip, Oihane Otaegi reached a landmark at the Le Gruyère AOP European Championships 2018, on Tuesday, when she lined up on the ice for her 100th game for Spain. Living up to the occasion, the Spanish team took a 7-6 victory over Hungary in the event’s B-Division.

“I feel great,” she said before the match. “I never thought I would make my 100th game. I started playing curling when I was 28, so it’s a great moment for me.”

Otaegi is confident that the profile of the sport in her home country is rising and will continue to do so, “I think it’s increasing year by year, the Spanish Federation is doing a very good job and we hope it’s going to be bigger and bigger every year.”

Spain finished eighth at last year’s European Curling Championships in St. Gallen, Switzerland with just one win to their name. They have already bettered this record this year with two victories to date in the B-Division.

Two more players have joined the 100 club. Norway’s Pia Trulsen and Hungary’s Henrietta Miklai lined
up on the ice for their landmark appearances for their countries.
