This evening’s qualification games for the remaining two play-off places saw wins for Denmark and Ireland.

Denmark defeated Bulgaria 7-3 with a score of three in the third end and a score of two in the sixth end proving to be crucial. After stealing a single point in the seventh end Denmark would go on to run Bulgaria out of stones and claim a place in the 1/8 Finals.

The game between Turkey and Ireland went all the way to an extra end with Turkey missing an opportunity with the last stone in the eighth end to take the win. Turkey’s Kadir Cakir faced an open takeout to score three points for the win, but instead caught the Irish stone wide and rolled his shooter out of the house, only scoring two points to tie the game.

In the extra end Ireland would go on to score two points for a 7-5 win and the last remaining place in the 1/8 Finals tomorrow.

They Said It

Mikael Qvist; Denmark (after 7-3 win over Bulgaria): "I think both teams had a problem. I don’t know if we played badly or the ice changed. Both teams clicked guards and had to take more and more ice, both teams, we struggled lots."

Neil Fyfe; Ireland (after 7-5 extra end win over Turkey): "We’re delighted! We came into this competition ranked 31 in the world and my ambition was to end up in the teens, so the fact we’ve made the last sixteen means we’ve fulfilled my expectations and more."
